Hello! How do I add kMod to MeGui so I can input my encoding settings within MeGui?
Thank you

You should be able to rename it and drop in replace the one megui is using if both x264's are using the same core version. Make a backup first (put megui's x264.exe into another folder)

Thanks! I replaced x264.exe and encoding still goes. How can I check if MeGui is using kMod? MediaInfo says the encoded file before and after I switched the x264.exe's are encoded with the same x264 version.
Also, where can I find info what options are added? Especially how to use aq3 and aq4. The site http://komisar.gin.by/ doesn't give me too much information.
Thanks

In megui, there is a command line box. Add your commandline settings there
You can use the program mediainfo (view=>text) and it will show the encoding settings used. "kmod" will be indicated if it was use

Thanks. It is all working perfectly. Does there happen to be a place where all added functions to kMod are well documented?

There's no documentation AFAIK, but you can check the patches for the added command-options.
Search in them for @@ static void help( x264_param_t *defaults

I did a little testing of AQ mode 3 and found it very underwhelming at reasonable CRF values. What's the difference between 3 and 4?
A long time ago Dark Shikari said:
AQ mode 4 would be an algorithmic improvement, and if it’s committed, it will probably simply overwrite the current AQ mode 2. No need to keep multiple experimental AQ modes around. (http://x264dev.multimedia.cx/archives/270#comment-2439)
Is that what happened?
As far as I'm aware AQ Mode 3 is all "official" now and should be included with all recent x264 versions. It hasn't been added to MeGUI's encoder configuration yet for some reason.
Maybe it's to do with the whole "bias to dark frames" thing being a fix for a problem that doesn't exist, although admittedly I seem to be the only person on the planet with that opinion and I've only tested between CRF16 and CRF23, but while the bitrate increased for AQ mode 3 it didn't seem to have a positive effect on dark scene quality and I thought maybe it was sometime having a slight negative effect on lighter areas.
Anyway, there's some AQ, dark frame comparison screenshots at if anyone's interested. The gamma for the screenshots was boosted a fair bit to make it easy to see any difference in respect to picture detail, or th lack thereof.

When I mentioned by scepticism regarding the need for a dark frame bias in that thread, someone posted a small sample of very hard to encode, dark video. You can find it here:

I encoded it and no doubt, x264 didn't do a very good job, but I also encoded it a second time while giving the brightness a decent boost, and the light grey encode looked just as bad as the dark version, so I'm not sold on the whole dark frame bias thing yet (I didn't upload my encodes of that video).
Anyone got a sample of a dark scene for which AQ mode 3 does a better job than AQ mode 1, which after running my comparison encodes I'm still using. If for no other reason than I wasn't seeing a quality improvement to match the bitrate increase.
I appear only to have noted the file sizes, not the bitrates, but here's what the different AQ modes gave me at 1280x536 for a 30 minute duration. I encoded a dark section of the movie, given that was the point of the testing, so the over-all percentage of dark areas would probably be much higher than the average movie.

the "k" stands for "komisar" . He listed the patches used for the kMod builds .
