I have an AVI file that I can see the video with, but I can't read the sound. Other avi files I can hear fine, just not this one. I checked the audio information with VirtualDub and got the following:

Sampling rate: 44100hz
Channels: 2 (stereo)
Sample precision: 16-bit
Compression: Unknown (tag 0161)
Preload skew: 10 samples (0.00s)
# of frames: 29822
min/avg/max/total frame size: 372/372/2720/10838k

I have DivX4 codecs installed. None of my audio or video programs can read the sound (windows media player, radlight, soundforge, quicktime). I tried exporting the sound to a wav file, but it's unreadable.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to decode the sound? Know what tag 0161 means? Does anyone else have this problem?

I am having this problem now. I have MP3 and AC3 installed but it doesn't work. Media Player always tries to download Windows Media Audio and then says it didn't work. I thought Windows Media Audio came with windows.

Try to do a Search for 0161, you will get the answers then.

I fixed it by installing divx 3.11
