So I had this idea, I've been using Linux so much lately that it's a pain to switch back into Windows to rip DVDs. So I picked up the VMWare demo, get it to work finally, fire up VirtualDub, it encodes divx4 fairly fast (surprising.) I try to rip something with SmartRipper, it stalls out after the first few seconds. Didn't really expect that to work. So I shut down the VM running Windows, mounted a fat32 drive, and vStripped the dvd there, unmounted, started the VM again. Four nice gigabyte-big files sitting there, like you'd expect. Problem is, I can't open them in dvd2avi - closest I get is if I wait a while the window will turn all green and spotty. Have I somehow copied the streams while failing to decode them? I'm not sure if that's possible. Basically, I don't know what's going on; I've tried quite a number of things and I get the same problem with DVD2avi each time.... any ideas? I post here because I suspect it's a decryption problem; don't really know for sure I guess.
