Force supported sound formats in Windows

I'm looking to connect my TV via HDMI and use the ARC channel to send the audio to the receiver as a possible alternative to going through the receiver. Does anyone know the relevant bits to change in the registry to force specific sound format support in Windows? ATM as a result of the format support Dolby Digital is decoded and comes out 2 channels only to the receiver.

I think you are looking at the problem in the wrong way. HDMI ARC is equivalent to SPDIF and only supports a maximum of 2ch LPCM or DD5.1 Passthrough. If you bitstream DD5.1 to your TV, yet it only sends 2.0 LPCM to your receiver, the problem is your TV, not Windows or ARC. Some TVs only support sending 2ch LPCM over ARC with external sources (i.e. HDMI DD5.1 is always decoded to 2ch LPCM by the TV), and are only capable of DD5.1 Passthrough with internal apps. If you have such a TV, you are out of luck.
