Has anyone tried Vidomi?

Howdy all,

I recently came across an encoding tool called Vidomi. I have yet to see anyone write about it, and its not in Doom9's download page.

It looks pretty good from the tests I've performed. Very fast and very easy to use. Is there a reason why more people aren't using this tool?? :confused:

What the heck is that? Sorry, but I don't know what GPL is.

I've used Vidomi for a few days now making a few movies using divx4.12. Seems to work very well. I had heard that it had some sync issues but I've not seen any. I've been using azid to make my audio in any case and nandub to blend it into the movie later.

I still prefer Gnot with a divx4log file tweak at the intermission,
but Damn! Vidomi is twice as fast! I can get a whole movie done in half the time and the quality is very respectable.

This is fixed, Marty went GPL with Vidomi ages ago, Doom9 played a vital roll in reminding him that using Vdub code in a non-GPL program is a violation of GPL rules i seem to remember ... and he is a very nice person i could find out meanhwhile.

Sounds like Vidomi and the programmer are cleared?

In any case what I was hoping to discuss was the quality of this tool. It is verrry fast as I mentioned and once again the quality does not suffer. There do not seem to be any facilities to perform temporal smoothers or any other filters, but as a straight divx4 2 pass machine it works very well.

I have not bothered with the various Divx3 modes though they look interesting.

If I'd known about Vidomi before, I would have started with it instead of Flask.

The issue has been cleared.
I suspect that the lack of popularity of Vidomi may be due to lasting impressions. *shrug*

i see a lot of movies created with vidomi (2cd) and the quality is really good, but it has no ac3 support and so its not useful for me. but if you dont need ac3..
its definitly a good idea to start with vidomi instead of flaskmpeg.

Why should that be a problem?

Just get your AC3 file using Smartripper or DVD2AVI etc... make your vidomi movie without audio, and then blend them together with nandub.
