The DVD2SVCD forums were split into Basic Topics and Advanced Topics. These new titles should be a better mirror and explanation of what the division is based upon.
Overview
The majority of all "help me with this" questions should go in the Basic Topics forum, while topics dealing with theory and advanced discussion go in Advanced Topics. It is not an exact science, but respected members with a goodly number of posts under their belt will be given a lot more flexibility with what they post in the Advanced forum. Most members who are newer should definitely post in the Basic Topics area unless you have a lot of experience under your belt from another forum or endeavor. Hey, if it is that good and interesting, a mod can move it for you to advanced. Such a deal! :)
More on Basic Topics:
Ok, Basic Topic is a little less formal than Advanced Topic. Generalized commentary, basic tips, interesting announcements and all of your "help me" posts should go here with the supporting information needed to answer the help request. If you post something goofy like "WTF? Something is brOkEn. My sCvd won't play, what's wrong?", don't be suprised to NOT get ANY reply except a link to the welcome sticky. Actually, lol, feel lucky IF that is ALL you get :)
If you have followed the group FAQ and rules and are not getting an answer and if your question has interesting aspects, a mod MIGHT move your post to advanced with a note of blessing asking for more experienced people to assist. Note we said IF you have done your part by giving all the info required and it is written in a coherent manner. That does NOT mean it has to be in perfect English and all gramatically correct (that would rule out all of my posts :) ), just think them out a little and make an effort, OK?
More on advanced Topics:
Is is important to note that STARTING a thread in the Advanced Topic section is the domain of experienced users who can discuss the topic, or at the very least, can start a thread with all the research and information needed to discuss the topic.
Actually we hope this is a bit more of a formal thread structure where the originator tends to moderate the thread to some degree. Replying to the topic in the Advanced Topic area is the domain of somebody with something to contribute to the thread. The thread originator is well within their rights to cast aspersions on your heredity and your cat if you post some BS "me too" or off topic reply to their thread. Ok, I am kidding a little. Thread originators should be polite but firm also.

Ok, all these rules and regs never work out perfectly as most of you know. We just want to try our best to keep posts and behavior between these general guidlines. Nobody expects perfection, just an honest effort from all members. Easy enough, yes?
This is supposed to be fun, after all. We don't want a bunch of holier than thou post police running around, but at the same time, each of you should not be afraid to politely, and even firmly direct the type of behavior that we need to keep this a place filled with the information you need. It is your forum, ya know? :p
The key word here is politely, albeit firmly polite sometimes. There are plenty of more severe ways to deal with a problem member, but that is the domain of your Mods, Super Mods or The Administrator, Doom9. When it gets to Doom9 it will be resolved...one way or the other. Luckily that type of behavior is nearly non existent in this forum. Its those DIvx'ers you have to watch! :D
