Hi.
I have been using Handbrake for all my DVD/Blu-Ray rips, and it's been great so far, but I've decided to look into Avisynth and MeGUI. It's obviously more complex than Handbrake, so I need some good guides or tutorials. Where do I look? I have never used MeGUI ever.
Besides how to create a rip which I get a result that looks good (with NO combing), I don't need any in-depth info. Some info regarding different deinterlacing methods, and how to determine which filters to use would be great.
I'm having some problems with ripping R1 Futurama and Family Guy DVDs, where should I post with these questions?
Thanks

Have you thought about using staxrip instead of MeGUI, it's better geared for the beginner and the only manual update you need to do to the software is update x264 to the latest version.
When it comes down to decombing\deinterlacing filters it probably best to create a 10 second sample of the issue your trying to fix and post in the Avisynth Usage section.

Thanks, I installed it now, and it looks so much easier! :)
Is it possible to install new filters? It looks like StaxRip doesn't have all the deinterlacing/decombing filters that MeGUI have.

you can add filters by clicking filters on the main staxrip window and click profiles. You can copy any .dlls or .avsi in to the avisynth plugins folder so they get autoloaded.

You need to "prepare" a DVD for encoding when using MeGUI. A set of vob files for just the movie, or a set of vob files per episode. You can open a folder containing ripped DVD files with DVDShrink if need be, and use it's re-author function to "prepare" the DVD. For a movie, you'd drag the main title from the right pane to the left (in re-author mode) or drag each episode from the right to the left, then use the Backup function to save the re-authored version to a new location. Make sure compression is disabled (or set the output target size in preferences to something really large) so DVDShrink won't try to "shrink" the video. Or you can rip a DVD with MakeMKV and re-encode the MKV it creates.
Once that's done, use the File/Open menu to open the first vob file in a set, and MeGUI should offer to index it and extract the audio. Add the indexing job to the queue and run it. When it's done, the script creator will open with a preview. The usual cropping and resizing etc is done there. You can use the Analyse button under the filters tab to get MeGUI to analyse the video and pick the appropriate de-interlacing. It doesn't always get it right. If in doubt, upload a sample as AMED suggested. You can also change the de-interlacing manually and use the Preview button to see the effect it'll have. Sometimes getting the de-interlacing correct is the hard bit.
When you save the script it'll be loaded into the video section for encoding. That's the very basics to get you started....
