View Full Version : Toolchain for processing HEVC videos ?

Hi all,

this Wednesday a Linkin Park concert is aired in 4k via Astra satellite.

So far I managed to "capture" the HEVC stream on my Linux box and dump the full TS to HDD.

What still is a bit unclear to me is how I process the stream after I recorded the concert.

One of my aims is to transcode the 4k stream as 1080p h264 video with original AAC audio.
I guess a simple approach for doing this, is using a recent ffmpeg build with HEVC-enabled to simply transcode the video part only and cut the resulting file with AVIDemux.

But how do I do a lossless cut with the original stream plus conversion to a more suitable container like MP4 or MKV ?

Convert the original TS with ffmpeg to MKV and split the video with Matroska Mux GUI using timestamps ?

Is anyone of you processing HEVC-based content so far ?

:thanks:

TIA,
D$

No idea. I'm sure ffmpeg can remux the video into MKV, but I'm not sure how you could go about cutting this on an I frame...

Thanks for your reply !
Well, unfortunately ffmpeg (a recent build I grabbed precompiled for Windows) fails pretty bad. The Audio seems to cause issues and streamcopy simply dies.
Re-encoding to h264 in 1080p somewhat works. I guess I have to rely on DVDFab Videoconverter for transcoding the video to 1080k.

I'll keep this thread updated in case anyone searches for processing HEVC streams. Recording under Linux works fine so far by either using VLC for recording or simply dumping the complete transponder from your /dev/dvb/adapter0 device after tuning in with w_scan.
