Hi guys. I was wondering how long a Blu ray takes to encode on your PC. Can you please post your PC specs (CPU/RAM/GPU) and say on average how long it takes to encode a Bluray?
Thanks!

This depends on many factors which should be stated, like:
- Duration of the movie
- Movie only or full backup
- Encoder settings (!)
- Resolution of the enocde (e.g. 720 is much faster than 1080)
etc.
To eliminate duration and size of the blu-ray, one could perhaps just give the encoding speed in fps for the feature. It still strongly depends on the encoder settings however ....

I agree Sharc. There are just too many variables. I'm looking into building a budget rig and I want to make sure encoding is reasonably fast. Real life usage from users is infinitely more valuable than benchmarks..

Benchmarks are useful for comparing. The best x264 benchmarks I have come across are here (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/). They use the FHD Benchmark, courtesy of one of Doom9's members.
If you're only occasionally encoding a movie, AMD CPUs seem a very attractive option since they are reasonably fast and cheap.
If you're constantly running x264, Intel CPUs are more economic in the long run due to their much lower power consumption.

I upgraded my second pc a few months ago with the i7 4790k and 16GB of ram. Has good speed. If you want to make a comparison using the same settings with a common source, let me know.

I seen FPS in the 70 and 85. I have the I7 4770K 16gb rams w-7, 64bit.
Movie only about 1 to 1.30 hour. and full backup to a 25gb media 2.00hrs and to 2.30.. 3D backup a bit longer by 1/2 more..

I assume you get this average speed using "High Quality" (default)?
