Hi,

One thing i learned in the Gimp recently is about luma masks, the technique described here is specific because the masks are very feathering :

It give nice results, preserving highlights and dark areas.

I was also wondering why scaling down the image sometimes instead of blurring it : To create an edge mask, it is best to scale it down, then denoise it strongly because some deconvolution filters works best with small noise instead of speckle. Then size it back, this will result in a very clear edge mask. At least in Gimp this saved me a lot of time.

Maybe this is also useful to select identical frames...
