How to determine correct playlist ?

Hi,
I have a BD with a lot of playlists (about 131). All playlists seem to have same files but not in the same order.
Is it a way to determine the correct playlist to use ?

The times are all so similar.

What happens if you play the disc in a BD player? The main title that actually plays, get the running time for that and compare these run times.
It won't likely show you the playlist, but it will show HH:MM:SS.

Do you know what the actual run time is? Try match against IMDb to compare.
Also check the blu-ray.com site for your bluray and read a review. They often list run times for the movie and special features and anything notable about the special features (like watch the whole movie with snippets of special features inserted seamless; ala Iception (2010) had a >3hr run time with seamless branching of the movie+special_features.)

Does the disc have a million special features that seamlessly branch from the main feature to short little featurettes?

There's no real way of knowing unless you check what each segment is.

If you got the free space, try backing up as a whole disc (decrypted) and then play each .m2ts to see what they are.
Mark any ones that are anit-piracy title cards.

And keep track which ones appear to be in order (assuming you know the movie you're ripping).

Beyond that, there's no fast way of knowing.
Unless someone with the exact same disc already did all the messy work for you somewhere else on the internet.

It's really just guess work if you can't access playback of any of the segments (.m2ts).

I'll try to read the disc with a BD player but it will only indicate the right run time. My hope was a player or software which could indicate what playlist is reading but it seems to not exist...
If anyone has another idea I'm interested :)

Could also be different language versions with some text in the video picture like text on the display of a PC or SMS on mobile phone which could have been made language specific.
Open the .mpls in MPC-HC or DGindexNV and see what you get.

Yes you're right with movies like Star Wars or Disney but in this case m2ts are identicals but not in the same order :-/ so the goal is to find the right order...
I've read DVDFab and MakeMKV could find correct playlist (using path from menu) but I'm searching a free tool, perhaps a tool to follow menu links exists ?

Don't load .mpls in MakeMKV.
Use the .bdmv file (or .index). It will read the whole disc and parse playlists (and drop some if they are identical or less than x seconds (set in options)).

After it loads, you can expand each title and look for ones with the audio that's advertised on the case.

In some instances, while the case reveals no intent for Japanese support, I find a playlist where the only subtitles are Japanese.
the next playlist has all the languages that's advertised on the case.
That's a dead giveaway which one is more likely to be proper.

It's a copy protection technique. They deliberately make 100's of nearly identical playlists so you can't copy the movie as easily. You might think it's correct, then an hour into the movie there's a 5-minute piece that's completely out of place or something...

What title is it (and country was it released in)? Unless it's a title that just came out today, someone has likely figured out the correct playlist. (AnyDVD usually tells you as well, but without the title I can't tell for sure.)

That's been out for a while, so AnyDVD should know what to do with it... I can't find any specific information about that title, but you can download a free trial of AnyDVD and it will tell you what PlayList to use (look in the status window).

That's probably the problem there, try it with the original disc. I don't think AnyDVD will associate a decrypted rip with the original disc, so it doesn't know what title it actually is.

Or if you have an encrypted ISO rip, that should work too... It'll look like this: (See where it mentions PlayList 461 is the good one)

I have perhaps found another solution : I've installed DVDFab Media Player, it shows all playlists but it adds "Main movie" after one playlist so I think it could be right.

Edit : Right playlist seems to be 00039.mpls. I've also found some files MD5 identicals but with a different name, these files are at the same position on a playlist so few streams are identicals with different m2ts files inside...
