Hello,
I captured a video using CamStudio and the Lossless coded, but VirtualDub is failing to open it.
This is the error message I am getting:
---
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'CSCD' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.
---
Do I need to add a directory or file to VirtualDub to find the lossless codec?
Thanks!

I just found that VirtualDubMod is capable of opening these videos without issues.

Are you using the 64 bit VirtualDub by any chance?
Here are two things you can try:
1. Get ffdshow tryouts (http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/), then go into Video Decoder Configuration and verify Camstudio decoding is not disabled. This should open your CamStudio AVI.
2. Get the FFmpeg input driver (http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=22269&st=0#entry95795). This driver opens all types of files, not only AVI, but you may have to select it manually in the Open File dialog. Read the instructions at the link.

Thank you for your help! I installed ffdshow tryouts and the FFmpeg input driver. I was able to open the CamStudio AVI using the ffmpeg supported file mode, but VirtualDub becomes unresponsive after a few seconds and I have to force it to close.
I don't know how to install the ffdshow plug-ins. On the installer window I checked the box to install the VirtualDub plug-ins, but I don't see any dll files in the VirtualDub directory. Do I have to manually move a file?
Thanks Again!

You don't need the ffdshow vdub plugin. That is for post-processing decompressed video. What you need is the ffdshow VFW interface. That is for decoding/encoding video. If you are using Windows 8 or newer then you should use the 32-bit ffdshow and 32-bit VirtualDub, because 64-bit version of ffdshow VFW is a bit broken.
