Here is my 1st experience with dvd-9 to dvd-5.
thought it migth interest some people.
and i have a few questions for some points did remain unclear.

movie = return to graceland (not that great by the way)

1/
used smartripper 2.41 in movie mode

->6 go

2/
used ifoedit 0.87 to strip unwanted streams, correct vobu, ifo tables, create new ifo's, remove p-uops,
remove angles.

is this point 2 really necessary? (may be for i stripped some streams?)

dont see the difference between remove angles pointer / keep angle ? (i did check both)
what is adjust pointer for? (i did check them)

-> another 6 go

3/
film plays ok with powerdvd 4.0 (open dvd from harddisk)
film is > 4.3 go

4/
transcoded movie by 85% (video stream destination * 100 / video stream source)
video stream source (in bytes) = length (secs) * avg bitrage / 8
video stream destination (in bytes) = 4,700,000,000 bytes - audio stream
audio stream (in bytes) = length (secs) * bitrate

it took 34 hours on my p3 600, 256 mo.... arggggg
if anyone has a quicker way to transcode ...?

-> m2v = 3.9 go

anyway to get the average bitrate of the video stream source simply?

5/remux with ifoedit with same options as in 2
i used the video_ts made in point 2

-> movie is now 4.3 go !! (i think i got lucky here... may be i should have added a few percents for safety to my 85% transcode rate ?)

6/
used recordnow max to burn the VIDEO_TS directory
(the software looks ugly but at least it works).
if anyone has a way to let me "try" primodvd ...

7/
played the DVD-R in my stand alone player philips DVD-957.
it works !!
but helas, no audio ! (
i think i forgot to remap my french audio stream (0x81) to 0x80.
Can anyone confirm this to me?

and no way to change audio on my stand alone player.
is this a restriction that can be changed in the IFO file with IFO EDIT ?

so here i am.
first try not to bad.
at least i know my philips DVD-957 standalone player works with DVD-R.

i'll be glad to hear any comment, suggestion about this related experience.

hope my english is not too bad.
