Hi, I would like to ask if there's any cpu/apu/gpu (nvidia, amd or intel) available that offers hardware acceleration for 4:2:2 h.264 decoding.
If not, what would be the minimum cpu needed to decode 1080i 25fps 4:2:2 H264 video in pure software?

There is no such GPU, all are limited to 4:2:0 8-bit today.
CPU requirements aren't very high though, the decoders are pretty efficient and recent CPUs are super fast. Can't really put a number on it though.

My AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is able to decode it. madVR is able to use HW deinterlacing for 4:2:2 with downsampling to 4:2:0 first.

Ok thanks for the replies.
My core 2 quad can do it as well. I am more interested in new cpus. For example an intel bay trail (http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/55844/Bay-Trail#@All) can decode it?

It's unlikely that consumer hardware will ever include native 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 decoding.

Game recording can profit a lot by 4:4:4, so I wouldn't say it's impossible. Due to hardware encoding features like ShadowPlay this has become more likely.
