Not sure where this goes exactly, but I just cleaned up my Windows 7 machine a bit, and removed an old Shark007 codec pack, figuring I'd just install ffdshow manually.

However, now my Windows Media Player won't play VC1 any more, even though I configured ffdshow to use WMP9 (or any other options, for that matter). I also ran the Win7DSFilterTweaker_5.9 utility, and it show 'Microsoft' is supposed to play VC1 (at it should be).

So, what am I missing here?!

windows media player 12 (the version embedded in win7) dumps directshow and adopts media foundation instead, so ffdshow (dshow=directshow) will not run on windows media player, maybe somethin happened to media foundation while uninstalling ur codec pack

Thanks. Yeah, I had completely forgotten about Windows Media Foundation. I reinstalled Windows Media Player, but it's still a no-go. :( Is there any way to repair the Windows Media Foundation?

maybe a "repair my computer" kinda thing from windows installation dvd?
donno if it will work, everytime windows gets messed up (which is somethin happens frequently), I just reinstall it.

Ironically, the 'messing up your system' part is precisely why I decided to de-install the Shark007 codec pack, only to leave my system messed up even worse.

give lav filters (http://files.1f0.de/lavf/LAVFilters-0.62.exe) a shot, I guess it should work on windows media player 12
