I was wondering if somebody could help me find out what's wrong with the sample I'm providing below. It contains (among others) a TrueHD audio track and an AC3 track enclosed in an MKV container. No matter which player - I've tried VLC, MPC-HC and a player called Koolplaya - they cannot decode the TrueHD audio track. Koolplaya even crashes whereas MPC-HC pauses until the audio is switched to another stream and VLC simply plays the clip silently.

The audio streams have the following characteristics:
Audio: TrueHD 48000Hz 8ch [A: English [eng] (truehd, 48000 Hz, 8 channels) [default]]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 640kbps [A: English [eng] (ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, 640 kb/s)]

The sample clip is here:
SampleTrueHD.mkv (http://www.file-upload.net/download-9566942/SampleTrueHD.mkv.html)

Have I misconfigured something, is maybe the TrueHD a particular format that isn't supported or is the clip simply broken?

Let me guess, this is from the new Transformers Blu-ray?

You'll need a updated player. MPC-HC should probably be fixed in a couple days, VLC will probably take a couple months, unless its brought to their attention and they backport the fix, or however they deal with such things.

Good guess. So I take it it is indeed a particular format that's not yet supported? What is different with this stream? I've had 7.1 streams in the past. Well, I guess I'll report it to VLC, not that I use it much, but I don't like broken things. Thanks for the heads-up!

Let me guess :p Dolby Atmos

You guys are scary. Why do you all guess so well? :p It's already in the bugtrac for MPC and I've reported it for VLC as well.

Why do you all guess so well?

it's been brought up in the eac3to thread as well as the lav filters thread, both stating to be Transformers source.

The last TrueHD fiasco was over synching issues with Pixar blurays.

The most recent TrueHD development would be the new Atmos feature for the upcoming bluray to Transformers.
