The title says it all really. To me this was by far one of the most promising features of H.264 never to see the light of day. I was hoping with HEVC it might become more prolific but a quick search suggests it might have been axed from the standard. Anyone more familiar with the specification?

You can get the spec here (http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.265-201304-I) and it looks like the feature is there but optional - even for decoding. (I.e. just like in H.264?)

It is in the standard as an SEI message: film_grain_characteristics()
It may even have been copy-pasted from the H.264 text. But as with H.264, it's likely to be ignored.
