I reinstalled the K-Lite codec mega package to see if it helped a sudden problem with playing .avs files. While it fixed my previous issue, if I play an .avs file with MPC, I'm now getting amessage that says that it can't render some of the pins in the graph. and I may not have the needed codecs. Then the following error detail:

Can anyone tell from this output what codec its looking for?

K-Lite has a habit of doing that. It means that your audio renderer is failing, most likely because the drivers got messed up or the audio device is set wrong. Check "Manage Audio devices" in the control panel to make sure your correct audio out is showing up and active, and in MPC check Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer. It should be system default, but you can test others as well. If all that fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling your audio drivers.

Alternately, there's a small chance your drivers just can't handle 11kHz audio and you'll have to upsample it.

K-Lite has a habit of doing that.Of doing what? It is doing absolutely nothing wrong. He simply got a broken driver.

You can solve this problem by either:
1) Update sound driver
2) Resample the audio to 44.1 kHz:
Add ffdshow audio processor as external filter in MPC-HC settings. Set it as preferred. In ffdshow settings, enable Resample and configure it to resample only when input is lower than 44100 Hz.

Tip: AviSynth uses AVI/WAV File Source by default as source filter. With Codec Tweak Tool you can change that to LAV Splitter. That might work better for you.

You should change audio settings with your Codec Tweak Tool.
This case just change Uncompressed Audio disabled to All Supported

Not sure which actually fixed the problem... did a little of everything you all suggested. Set the MPC to default audio, resampled at the higher rate, selected the LAV splitter, and changed uncompressed disabled to all supported. Problem gone! Thanks to all. Learned a lot along the way.
