MPC-HC changing API (Quicktime/RealMedia/Directshow)

Hello,

I am running:

64-bit Windows 8.1
32-bit MPC-HC 1.7.6.139 (all internal (LAV) filters enabled)
32-bit LAV filters 0.68

In MPC-HC format options, I cannot change the API that is being used no matter what I do. What is even more confusing is that the API that is shown is not always accurate! MPEG-4 Audio (AAC, etc.) shows Quicktime which I don't want to use and cannot change and RealMedia shows RealMedia but actually uses DirectShow.

Is there a way to make the APIs changeable again? I'm sure this is a Windows 8 thing. Can someone at least explain to me how to use DirectShow for AAC?

Guys, anywhere I can get nightly builds of MPC-HC? The official Nightlies are more of a "bi-weekly" deal.

Nightlies are build when there are changes. If there are no changes, no point in building a new version.
They try to accumulate changes in their local developer trees before pushing to the master to avoid too many different versions floating around, and making support harder.

You need to click on the "Modify" button first if you want to change any of the settings on that page. Or explicitly run MPC-HC as admin.

It will automatically fallback to using DirectShow when the selected framework isn't installed.

Yeah, I meant LAV filters 0.62, not 0.68.

Also, I ran MPC-HC as administrator and now I am able to change the APIs. For some reason, just hitting the "Modify" button on the formats page and then clicking Yes in the UAC dialog box would enable all the options but they still wouldn't actually take effect when changed. Anyway, all is well now! Thanks!

BTW, just wanted to give a thanks to all developers. I have been using MPC-HC for years and using MPC in general for well over a decade and it is still definitely the best media player out there. I've tried virtually everything else (except XBMC which I hear is good. opinions?) and nothing has the polish of the interface or the expandability due to DirectShow that MPC-HC has. VLC (one of the most overrated pieces of Windows software ever), SMPlayer, KMPlayer, WinAmp (great for what it was), Sonique, MusicMatch, Cyberlink, WMP, RealPlayer (the web video download option is very cool), Quicktime, foobar... nothing else is as good. And, while not a developer, I can speak with some authority on this since I have been working with audio and video on PCs since around 2000 with experience in playing, streaming, tagging, ripping, transcoding, editing, uploading, torrenting, etc. and have well over 3000 audio/video files in various formats (not all simply DIVX/XVID)...

Indeed, will be fixed in next nightly build :)
