Hi all,
a question, probably basic for BD3D...
In BDs that have the option for 2D and 3D,
does it mean that they have the movie twice?
One in MVC (for 3D) and one AVC (for2D)?
Or it can be authored and the Base view can be played
when the user selects 2D?
Thanks.

Yes, two streams: AVC (left-eye/2D data) + MVC (right-eye/3D data; avg. half of the AVC stream).
Playing back on [2D Blu-ray player] will be different for each machine.
Most, if not all, will stop you and show error: "requires [3D blu-ray player] and [3D TV]".
Some good ones will play it as 2D-only. Your milage may vary~
Playing back on [3D blu-ray player], will automatically set TV to 3D-mode.
You can change back to 2D-only and it will play only the AVC for 2D.
There might also be options in [3D blu-ray player] to automatically switch to 3D when a 3DBD is inserted. Your milage may vary~
For PC playback: if it's not 3D software, it will just play the AVC stream no problem.
... Your milage may vary~ (just in cases)

Thanks Sparktank,
so 2 streams then. And the same for menus?
You have 2 sets of menus, one with offset and one without?
Thanks.

Menus? lol, I'm not sure.
I've only bought the 3D bundles because my friend has an [LG 3D Smart TV].
I leave my 3D BD's over at his place until I want to do anything with them here and keep the 2D BD's here with me.
But, I think yes, the menus are doubled as well.
Or maybe, converted to 3D (from the TV not the player).
I've only remuxed the movies and featurettes (be it special features or trailers).
Sometimes "MakeMKV" will remux some menus as video. This depends on how the BD was made.
Other 3D enthusiasts should be able to chime in with more info concerning menus.
Personally, I remux my collection and playback on PC. I've not used my BD player for over a year. :p
