ERROR: FFMPEG has stopped working... using multiavchd

I have used multiavchd for a few years now, very rarely do I have any issues. I always take my avi files or mp4 and convert to mpeg2 with power director and then author with multiavchd. Now all of a sudden i start getting a windows error that ffmpeg has stopped working... this during the production of making the blu ray. I've uninstalled muliavchd and reinstalled and still getting error. has anyone experienced this and if so a fix?

something else that i have noticed that may or may have something to do with it is that I all of a sudden have a program GDSmux popping up into my quick task bar. I have never seen this before. I traced it back to Haali splitter. I've completely uninstalled it and reinstalled from sourceforge but it still appears.
