I recently sold my Black Magic Intensity Pro card and purchased a Hauppauge HD-PVR 2 1512.
The main reason I sold the BMI was because it lacked anything greater than 2.0 audio. Being must of the footage I wanted to capture was live concerts most in 5.1, I figured I could deal with a little bit of video quality loss and have some 5.1 audio in return.
Another reason I thought the Hauppauge device would be better was because I thought it was going to save me a bunch of time encoding. This turned out to not be the case.
Sure I can capture 1080p with 30 fps at 14mbs but will my little wimpy htpc devices running XBMC play the transport stream files? Nope.
I use XBMC on all my tv's and I was hoping all I need to do was capture the video, edit out the commercials if I wanted, and steam them to ask my tv's. This was by far easier than capturing a huge raw mjpeg , editing out the commercials, and then re encoding right? Not really.
So now I'm stuck. I can capture the ts streams but what is the recommended method of re encoding them so they will stream to my XBMC devices without me having to spend hours in front of my PC?
Any help out advice would be great.
