What do you mean ffmpeg? Not all the good ones are based on ffmpeg/libav.
For newbies, Handbrake. There is no competition, it's fast, simple, and incredibly intuitive.
For a wider range of needs, Mediacoder. Can read and write practically any format, well beyond ffmpeg's support. The GUI is a bit of an acquired taste, though.
For the tweaker, MeGUI, with or without AvsPmod. Encapsulates everything the ripping, scripting, encoding, and muxing steps are capable of in a pretty well crafted GUI. (Unless you need aspect-ratio adjustment.) Can be as simple as nearly one-click or as complicated as tweaking every last thing.
For payware, DVDFab and CloneDVD. DVDFab has compatibility with the widest range of obfuscated DVDs, but that part is freeware if you're willing to rip there, then mount and convert via other tools.
For WMV/VC-1, Expression Encoder 4. There's nothing else that even approaches its compatibility and configurability for Windows Media, and as long as you have a directshow decoder you can input pretty much anything. (I've never had any luck using ffmpeg-based VC-1 encoders.) By setting up your preferred default preset, you can make encoding nearly one-click as well.
All my own opinions.
