While testing PSY-Trellis I've noticed that lowering the PSY-RDO strength seems to improve quality in bright scenes. So, I've been thinking; what if the PSY-RD was variable? I didn't know how to make a patch, so I decided to do a quick test on a short clip with zones to compare variable PSY-RD and fixed PSY-RD.

To calculate the strength I took the range divided it by 255, multiplied it by the average luminance and then subtracted the total from the maximum PSY-RDO/Trellis strength. For tests 1 and 2 I used a range of 0 to 1, for test 3 and 4 I used 0.4 to 1 and for the variable PSY-Trellis tests I used 0 to 0.4, test 0 has a fixed PSY-RD (1.00:0.20).
