I have a weird problem with displaying some videos I captured between madVR and EVR CP. I am using this codec pack: http://haruhichan.com/forum/showthread.php?7545-KCP-Kawaii-Codec-Pack

For say UT Video files, the display differences between EVR CP and madVR is nothing really. However, playing mp4 (or .ts) files has a very big difference. madVR displays them properly but EVR CP looks... off. I don't know what is the problem.

Basically why does UT Video files look pretty much the same but mp4/ts files don't?

My guess is madvr is displaying full range and using tagged colormatrix while evr is displaying limited range and another colormatrix, assumed by resolution. Can you post a sample of the mp4?

Yes that sound about right. I have tried messing between 0-255 and 16-235 along with 601 > 709 etc but it still won't look like madVR. Here is a quick sample.

Looks nearly identical in potplayer for me here. One thing to check is display driver enhancements, they affect evr but mostly don't effect madvr unless dxva2 scaling is used IIRC.

If this was the culprit you'd think it would affect UT video as well.

It looks like one of them is using a different gamma curve. The black level stays the same and there's no clipping so it doesn't seem like a problem of full range vs limited range.

I have my ATI CC set to "Use Video Player Settings". It's basically all defaults.

Edit: I went to Video Quality and unticked all the settings like edge enhancement and it's much better but still not like madVR (it's getting close now though).

Edit2: I went to Color > Advanced Color and deselected all the settings and now finally I have EVR CP looking like madVR. :)

Here is what EVR CP looks like now (compare to OP madVR): http://i.imgur.com/jENXzHQ.jpg

madVR just has more detail (to be expected I guess).
