I did not get an answer in the virtualdub forum , so I thought I try here.
When I want to load an mp4 video in virtualdub, I always get this message - "missing mp4v codec".

I have already installed the FFmpeg input driver plugin, but I still get the error when trying to open a mp4 video. Please any help would be appreciated.

EDIT

Ok it turns out I had to re-install a large codec pack from - http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_full.htm

,but now Yes its loading mp4 ,but the video is on an angle, what settings do I need to change to straighten the mp4 video ?

Wrong solution --- all you had to do is install ffdshow, and then configure its VfW decoder.

In this case at least, an image might paint a thousand words :)

Try the Quicktime plugin to see if it does any better. What's the width of the video? The "video on an angle" thing sounds like it might be a mod2 problem. Ideally the width should be evenly divisible by four. Or it could be something else....

Does that work for MP4s? You'd probably still need a plugin to open it, even if ultimately ffdshow does the decoding.

For working with MPEG-4 ASP content the Xvid codec (http://www.xvid.com) should also do the trick for you. VirtualDub works seamlessly via its VfW interface.
