View Full Version : Question on Samsung F5070 series TVs

I've been looking at TVs lately and they always only state the "maximal" Hz the TV supports, e. g. 100/200/800Hz (lol)
The manual also doesn't seem to state which other frequencies it will support.
For example, the F5070 series of Samsung only states 100Hz. Can this TV play 23.97fps natively without judder?
They also state their LED Clear Motion is supposed to reduce blurriness on fast movements. Is this the black frame insertion feature, especially since they warn the max brightness will be reduced?
Generally, if dividing the Hz by the source fps, does a smaller remainder mean less judder?
if the number is a multiply of 50 it's a pal device these can do 60 too. 23p is a normal feature for every common tv these days.
the maximum hz input for these tvs is still 60 hz.
the ridiculous hz number is a combination of backlight strobing/scanning(or even only a part of the backlight) plus frame interpolation/repeating.
this vid is german but the picture talks for it self

if you want to use the tv as a PC display you may look for one with 444 rgb support. samsung is not know for good pc support. most TV can't use backlight scanning/strobing with pc mode and can only do this with 422 chroma this is very bad for pc usage but "ok" for watching videos.

German is fine, thanks. I planned to get a TV to mostly watch 23.97fps content, ps3 and rarely TV. So not really planning to use it as a PC monitor.
I was wondering if I would still need madvr's smooth motion with this one. If it's doing its own interpolation, I guess using smooth motion would only make it worse.
This TV seems to have a "film mode" and HDMI-black point correction. Is that the masked 444 rgb option or do you know it doesn't support it for sure?

nearly all picture computer in tv can't do it in 444 rgb they do everything in YCbCr 422 this is normally not stated in the Manuel.
older samsung TV only support 444 rgb with a one hdmi (name computer/dvi) and need a special name for it PC / GAME. this "disables" the picture computer no backlight scanning no interpolation but full chroma resolution lower input lag. i'm not sure if samsung has improved this in the past. panasonic is adding displayport for PC and gmae console usage so they are doing it right.
you can disable the interpolation but backlight scanning/strobing is something worth to lose 444 rgb chroma atleast for most people.
