IFOedit, CCE, Audio Sync WORKS!

Okay...I've been sitting around watching this thread whole scene for a while and I thought I would let you all know what I do to get audio and video to synch...perfectly...everytime:

With IFOedit, I use pulldown to adjust the CCE encoded video framerate to match the framerate described in the VTS_ file...somewhere it tells whether the video is 24fps or 25fps or 30fps...just use DVDPatcher to find out what the CCE file is and then use pulldown to correct it if there are errors. I work in NTSC format...and I have done five movies with CCE and IFOedit and it works everytime.

In fact...a lot of a/v sync problems cam be fixed by using pulldown on the video source to match the audio source.

By the way...

Most of you following Robshots method to use CCE may be having problems with IFOedit audio syncing because he suggests using 24fps on NTSC films by checking the force film option. Don't check it and you may not get sync errors. I think that worked for me on one video...I'll double check.

i put those there so when i post a thread or reply to one they know what hardware i have that is related to DVD. I didn't post all my other hardware that is not related to, or would effect, dvd burning.

i was tired of responding to questions like...well, what burner do you have, what os are you running, etc.

I AM working on the guide...honest.

BUT...my computer seems to be having an issue that MS seems to just shrug off as a minor bug...and no one anywhere seems to have a solution fot the problem other than re-install your stuff or buy a non-via based motherboard. F! that...stupid solutions.

It seems that whenever I work with MPEG2 files, my computer (W2K mode only) either craps out with a ...memory could not be "read" or ...memory could not be "written" error. I did not have this problem until I installed Visual Studio and Visual Studio .NET... I think it has something to do with the debug modules and kernal communications...

Not relevant to this thread...but I just wanted you to know I have not forgotten my guide.

Posting hardware is a good idea...kudos to Chumboy, but we may also want to start being version specific about our software as well...

What I would not give to have a Z80 again...at least it ran what I asked it to!

I MISS MY COMMODORE 64!!! I guess they call those MACS now?!

Ah...Windows...nothing like booting to an 8-Bit module (D0S), then load a 16-Bit subproccessor() on top of that to try and run 32-bit code smoothly...what a bunch of morons...too bad all the software I need to do my lifes work is Windows based or I'd be running LINUX all day long.

I've been encoding with CCE for a few movies that won't fit on a DVD (using Robshots method), and I always use force film in DVD2AVI. I then take the mpv and use the command line pulldown with -prog_frames p. I then take the resulting .mpg file and the .ac3 file and feed it into DVDMaestro and I've yet to have an audio sync problem. I work in NTSC with region 1 movies. Note: if you use DVDMaestro, make sure you set a 'first play'.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but it works for me.

My computer is still being a naughty unit, so I will try to give you a quick guide with text before anyone explodes or anything while waiting (wink wink nudge nudge).

Personal Opinion: IFOedit is a fantastic application, really...but when you compress the living pixels out of something using CCE...using IFOedit makes no sense (if you're burning back to DVD) becuase your going to waste a poopfull of space...so look beyond the first text tutorial to see what I normally do.

Text Tutorial #1 (IFOedit with CCE files)

Tools that were used:

SmartRipper 2.4x
IFOEdit 8.x
CCE 2.62
VFAPI Codec 1.04 Beta
Pulldown
DVDPatcher

This is so simple, really:

1. Rip the whole movie to your hard disk using SmartRipper or whatever you like, I use SmartRipper becuase it generates DVD2AVI project files needed for the VFAPI Codec...

2. Load the .d2v file into the VFAPI Reader and convert it...

3. Load the new VFAPI .avi file into CCE...

4. Recommend using Robshots guide for CCE settings...(I personally only do one VBR pass as I find it good enough for me...)

5. Go visit some friends or something while CCE does it's duty...

6. Take completed .mpv file from CCE and examine it with DVDPatcher...look for the framerate in the upper left info box...take note of the framerate...

7. Open IFOedit and load up the VTS_x.ifo file OF THE MAIN MOVIE FILES, not the overall disk ifo file. In the overview window it will give you a bunch of stream information, resolution, audio types, subpicture types and what not...but it will also give you a listing of the PGC and there will be time stamps followed by a framerate number...all of mine are 30fps becuase I use NTSC.

8. Check your CCE file against this number, and if the DVDPatcher framerate does not match this number, then you need to continue on...otherwise...it should work...

9. Use pulldown to set the framerate of the CCE file to match the fps set in the VTS file...

10. Enjoy. If the framerate matches and audio is still out of sync...I suggest running pulldown across the file anyway to correct any possible errors.

Like I said, I have got this to work several times, but it is not the most effecient way to squeeze movies onto DVD-R discs...

What I normally do is:

1. Rip the whole DVD to my hard disk
2. Use DVD2AVI to create .d2v file
3. Use VFAPI to create frameserving .avi
4. Use CCE to create super duper .mpv file
5. Take SmartRipper and stream extract the audio file I want
6. Use SoftEncode and take the 448bit .ac3 file and re-encode it at 224bit (like my ears can really tel the difference...) which saves another 150MB or so of space
7. If SoftEncode crashes, which it sometimes does reading files of this size, I use BeSweet and seperate the .ac3 into 6 waves, then load them up into SoftEncode and create a new .ac3 file at 224bits.
8. Then I use DVDWise to create my own DVD with menus and stuff...usually three movies to a disc...

Damn I can't wait until someone comes out with a program that will do all this stuff with the push of a button...I would, but who has that kind of time....

i followed your directions (and robshots) and am having a problem.

after doing the settings in CCE SP 2.64, i hit encode for it to make an .mpv file. when i hit "encode", save the .ecl file, then it works for 1 second and says that it is done! the output file is "0" bytes.

i followed the directions exactly.

If you cannot hear the difference between 448 and 224, you need to have your ears examined :) I tried lowering the bitrate on the audio from "Any Given Sunday" only one step (cant remember exact bitrate), but it made the bass sound very bad and the audio all in all sounded synthetic.

If guess if you have a poor stereo, poor speakers and no subwoofer it will sound fine. But on an expensive home theater I will bet you can hear the difference.

I say: "Leave audio alone", it's so little you can save anyways

Hi UnZone..could you show how u are muxing the .m2v file with your VTS_xx.x.IFO file pls. As I have done tried your way with pulldown and audio is sync till about 2 mins in (just before cell id).Then its choppy as hell.

i think i'm onto something...someone mentioned it...about remuxing.

i'm in the process of stripping out EVERYTHING before the movie.
Including the studio logo, any intro's for 3rd party producers.
strip it down so the first bit that goes through your processor is the first bit in the movie vob and cell id.

i've also heard that those "intro's" can be of different picture ratio and sound type. my thinking is: get all those different bitrate's and such out and THEN rempeg2.

anyways...i'm trying it now and rempeg2 will be done tomorrow morning.

just an FYI
... while we are messing with hex codes in ifoedit anyway ( to fix the chapter points ) ... the first play is set in the video_ts,ifo under VMGM_MAT/First Play PCG ... scroll down a bit and you should see somthing that looks like

2.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 02 83 00 00 ]


basicly - run the first program group in vob 2 , title 1 , named root ( note the 01 02 in the hex numbers )

BTW - thaat above is from Matrix .. it would load up the main menu.
