Dynamic Range Compression - Before or after Stereo Downmix?

Hello,

I want to downmix some 5.1 Files to Stereo and add some Dynamic Range Compression. Is it much more useful to apply the compression before or after downmix? Used Programs are eac3to and Sox.

Use DRC before downmix.
The volume of dialogs in center channel are preserved better in one channel than mixed with the rest of channels.
