View Full Version : Subtitles added in multiAVCHD slowly go out of sync

I've successfully added a set of .srt subtitles to my blu-ray backup using multiAVCHD.

For reference this is the stepped I used:

1. Backed up (Japanese NTSC) blu-ray using MakeMKV (decrypted)
2. Opened the folder in MultiAVCHD (blu-ray authoring mode)
3. Clicked on "properties" for the .mpls containing the feature
4. added .srt subtitles under "External Subtitles"
5. Closed properties and adjusted size and offset of font under "Subtitles & Audio"
6. Press "Start" and choose "Blu-ray Disc"
7. Burned folders using ImageBurn

The disc works perfectly with my Oppo player, menus and everything is intact and the subtitles can be switched on and off.

EXCEPT, as the movie progresses, the subtitles go out of sync. By the time you hit the half an hour mark, it's very noticeable and it just gets worse and worse.

Now, I expect someone to note the fps. I made an .mkv of the movie using Handbrake and the same fps (23.976) and the subtitles work perfectly for it.

Anyone have any clue what it could be? I saw another poor fellow asked this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1448949#post1448949) a while back, but no one responded.

Anyone? :scared:

I have encountered timing-issues sometimes with subs in MultiAVCHD also in the past, which I could not resolve.
As a workaround, you can create a SUP file (what BD uses for subs) from the srt you have with SubtitleEdit and import that in MultiAVCHD.
Takes a bit of learning, though.

Thank you kindly for the response. I'll see if I can create a .sup file and see if that helps. Is SubtitleEdit the only software you need? Aware of any guide for this online?

Thanks again.

Yes, SubtitleEdit is the only software you need to create SUP files. The visuall sync function maybe comes in handy in your case. After export as SUP you can directly import in MultiAVCHD. The software is not to difficult to use IMO.
On the author's site there are some videos that will get you setup and running: http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit/Video

Just for curiosity, how large is the progressive delay?
It may all boil down to 24 vs 24/1.001 or 25 vs 24/23.976 or similar. I noticed that tsMuxer, in its version 10.6 used by multiAVCHD sometimes changes the size or the fps. I use Bdsup2sub to check them.

I had this a few times also because of the 24 fps bug that EasySup has. Now, in tsMuxer "standalone" you can check "bind to video fps" but MultiAVCHD doesn't have that option IIRC.

Thanks for the replies guys! Making it into a .sup using Subtitle Edit was not only easy but completely fixed my problem and made my subtitles in sync once remuxed. Strange but whatever works right?

My process flow for adding subtitles to blu-rays (keeping menus etc) has been streamlined and very easy.

1. MakeMKV for backup
2. Subtitle Edit to create .sup from .srt
3. Add subtitles and remux with multiAVCHD
4. Burn with ImageBurn

I highly recommend it.

Well, not strange... Importing external srt's can have its own problems. MultiAVCHD and it's tools haven't been updated for a long time and have some issues too. In general it's great software though.
