I have a 1 gig duron I mostly use for encoding.. currently, I have 192 pc 100 ram on the k5s7a mobo..

I was thing of upgrading to DDR , would I notice much speed difference with CCE or is it a waste of money to upgrade when my speed is already pretty good?

I current get an average of .970 or so..

Thanks!

If the board supports it then it might give a bit of a performance boost. I don't have much experience with that board. I believe it supports both SDRAM and DDR, but not at the same time.

If you are considering upgrading the ram you might want to consider upgrading to a much faster chipset in the 266a based boards.

Do you mean you have the k7s5a? If so then this information might help you.

I have 2 of those motherboard, Both are running 512megs of ddr ram, and I have both overclocked from 1400 to 1500. My bios settings are all set to ultra/2/6/3 and still no issues. My friend runs pc133 with his k7s5a and cant even bump it up a little without problems. anyways the encode speeds I get with the 1.4ghz@1.5 with the latest dvd2svcd is 1.5-1.6 the reason I put those down is it really depends on the movie. I really havent done no encoding with my xp1600 setup since i've overclocked mainly this machine is used for my gaming interests LOL..

Thanks for the reply Markrb,

It has 2 slots for both DDR and SDRAM, and yes, they cant be run at the same time.. (1 gig max of ram on either)

I think I will pick up a few 512's of DDR an see how it goes :)

Hi Chainsaw,

I just got this board a few weeks ago and I love it. I am currently running a duron 1 gig (no overclocking) and 192 pc100 ram.. I average .0970 on normal movies (not girlfight though :D)

I definely am going to go get DDR now.. I have a friend also who has this with 133 ram and his system craps out everytime he trys to run it overclocked..
