I know very little about audio encoding, aside from the general stuff most people tend to know, so I apologize if this question is stupid or has been asked a million times.
So, I'm sure people have heard demos of Surround sound over stereo technologies (I don't know the technical term), for instance AMD's True Audio and stuff like that which outputs 3D sound over 2 channels.
So I'm wondering is there a tool out there, that could take a multichannel source, either an AC3/DTS/mono WAV whatever input and process it through a 3D sound algorithm to make a Stereo track with 3D sound?
Is this even being looked at by the open source community?
I know MeGUI offers stuff like Stereo Downmix, but I am assuming that is not the same as the stuff I'm asking about, right?
