Badly messed up colours

Hi,

Today I tried capturing a roughly 15 year-old vhs tape. I was using an EasyCAP usb thingy, got for around 5 bucks off ebay, it has composite and S-video inputs and since I have no s-video cable at hand, I tried capturing with composite. This is a sample of what I get:

I had the TV simultaneously displaying the picture via SCART and that had no obvious colour artifacts. Will using an S-video cable make a difference? Thanks.

This has nothing to do with using the composite input. To me it looks like you have selected the wrong video standard in your capture driver (NTSC instead of PAL, or a wrong PAL flavor...)

Think it was secam D, was already set. I am from a PAL land by the way.

Then you already know the reason for your messed up colours...

Set your driver to the correct PAL standard (like PAL_B for Germany), and chances are that you will get the right colours. If you do not know which PAL standard is used in your country, you can look it up here:

Unfortunately there are a lot of capture drivers which will not remember this setting when you restart the capture device, so you will have to set the video standard again each time you start a new capture.
