View Full Version : DVD-Rebuilder + subtitles = noShow !

First of all i like to mentioned the list of working tools i use:
1.DVD-rebuilder 1.28.2 pro
2.Tried Both CCE SP2 + HC 26 & hc 27beta
3.Tried Both Avisynth 2.6 alpha4 & 2.5.8 MT
Now, the problem is that some subtitles dont appear during playback in DAun Potplayer latest stable build and Beta build aswell !!
However , the rebuilder encoded disc does play nice in Windvd pro 10 and MPC-HC !!
Iam baffled that the disc play nice in MPC-HC, because MPC is very similar to potplayer in terms of usage and options !!
Oh, on a side note ... First i thought something is possible wrong whit the original untouched DVD-9 rip .
So i have tested the dvd-9 rip in all software players, and ofcourse the disc played nice in all players.
Yes the subtitles appear in potplayer too, but only when i play the DVD9 rip !!
so i figured something must have been wrong during the encode OR what is more likely during the REbuild / reauthoring process (after encode) in rebuilder!!
So , i used an transcoder and recoded the disc using nero recode .
And ofcourse lo and behold, the dvd5 transcoded disc play's just fine in potplayer toO!!?
Then, i went back to rebuilder and started to use HC instead of CCE to recode the whole shabaam to narrow down the root of this problem..
And again.... subtitles dont appear with that HC encoded disc !!!
So i thought, the cause of all this must be during the rebuild process !!
So i did an DVD9 project through rebuilder (NO ENCODE.. just REBUILD)!
And sure enough.... the disc play fine !!!! All subtitles are playing nice in potplayer !!!
So.. my 100 zillion dollar question is...
How/what can an encoder cause subtitles not appear correctly !!!
Before u answer, i like to remind u i have used different revisions of both cce/HC/avisynth.
also, for hours and hours i have litteraly tried several different options in potplayer. LIke , DXVA native and copy-back, external filters / decompressors etc etc...etc...
And in all instances the problem wos not fixed !!

Before U make the statement quoted first, try using the proper helper apps.
Avisynth 2.5.x no MT
HC 0.23
Let's see if the problem is with the helper apps you are using
Have you tried on a standalone player

HC encoder shouldn't make difference, but worth a try. I use 0.25 never ran into issue.

my statement is valid..
The first thing i did is change the lil helpers such as avisynth, encoders, settings and much more !!
Have tried avisynth lil helper ST → official builds only !!
Ranging from revision 2.5.6 up to 2.6.x alpha = to no vail !!
have tried HC enc 0.23 → 0.27 as i have stated and again it makes no difference which lil helpers i use !!
The only thing i can try is the transcoder from rebuilder !!
Because transcoder and encoders work very different from eachother , or so i have read somewhere!!
And YES (before any 1 asks), i have used an untouched DVD-9 I have not edited/cut parts before using it in rebuilder!
And no , i have this particular problematic movie not tried in stand alone player..
But, iam 99,99% sure the subtitles will all appear on stand alone.
Because Windvd pro 10 pretty much acts in the same way a stand alone woud do ..
Trust me, i have experienced and experimented allot to make that statement..
my experience is, usually when windvd gives issues with certain dvd discs, the same happends on stand alone.. and vice versa...
So, and like i have mentioned before.. The disc play fine in mpc and windvd but not in potplayer.
but thanks anyway,

Update...
Using Rejig transcoder in rebuilder gave me the following error "Corrupt Stream detected" ONLY in → rebuild process (no issues while transcoding) !!!
It seems blanking extras through rebuilder edit/preview feature is causing this !!!
When i leave everything about the dvd intact (no sttripping = blank) rebuilder could rebuild the dvd just fine !!
So, something is going on with the extra features from the dvd !!!!
Next , i gonna try and encode the disc all extras included !!!
this is insane !!
EDIT: rejig transcode through rebuilder played nice in potplayer .. all subtitles are accounted for .. but the vid quality sucks ofcourse :scared:
Despite the xtras, the main movie compression quality wos still 70%
Nero recode did an much much better job
I'll do an encode from the disk again all extras included (nothing blanked = which might be the root cause of the problem me thinks)

Update 2:
Nope, encoding the whole disk did not fixed the subtitle nuicance either in potplayer !!
It seems only transcodes do their magic !!
oh well...

So why are you posting here when the issue seems to be the player?
Plays in all other players + doesn't play in this player = this player issue.
Test it in a standalone. If you have an issue, then it might be considered a bug and can be reported as such.

Hi jdobbs,
Long time no see :sly:
Plays in all other players + doesn't play in this player = this player issue.
Mr.jdobbs... ,!!
I have explained that ONLY the "dvdrebuilder" encoded disc/movie gave problems in potplayer!!
The untouched DVD-9, or transcoded discs play JUST FINE in ALL players (mpc, windvd, vlc, etc etc)
Every time when an encode/rebuild through rebuilder fail to playback properly for whatever reason, the original source wheiter its transcoded or not seems alway's to play just fine in ALL players !!
That alone must indicate that usually NOTHING CAN BE POSSIBLE wrong with the original dics or transcode.. Or the programs that have ripped / transcoded those movies !!
The fact remains that while the untouched dvd9 and / or dvd-9 → dvd-5 transcodes made by nero/shrink play just nice not only in pot player but in any other player too, the encode made through rebuilder is not !!!
So, if → ONLY ← the encodes made by dvdrebuilder app give playback problems then surely u must see that there has been something wrong during the encode/rebuild process which might cause this strange subtitle behaviour .. is it not!
Moreover the transcode process in recode went spotless from start to finish and all subtitles are accounted for.
Now, the transcode process in rebuilder using rejig (tried both new engine/old engine) wosn't spotless !!
Yes, the transcode itself went smooth... but on rebuild i got the following errors something about "eerror corrupt streams detected "" !!
But those errors wos because i blanked some extras IN REBUILDER prior to batch transcode (not pre edited in other apps however)!!
So, here i thought it wos SAFE to CUT / blank pieces from dvd IN REBUILDER app!!
It seems i wos wrong !!
Because u see, ONLY when i leave everything intact rebuilder/rejig could transcode/rebuild the dvd disc flawless .... and the subtitles did infact all appear in potplayer !!!
So, only CCE,HC whatever encodes whit this particular movie = EPIC FAIL, whether i leave everything intact or not. !!!
ALSO, i have done an MOVIE ONLY encode .. to elliminate the possiblity of an bad authored structure on that disc... Again ... to no vail !!
another scenario is that it might be very well both POTPLAYER and Rebuilder clash altogether ..
Because, according to the changelogs from potplayer...
they supposed to have fixed missing dvd subtitles since build 1.5.39145 Beta → http://www.dvbsupport.net/info/potplayer.html
Iam just asking to be open minded about this and acknowledge the fact that rebuilder still might have some bugs to squash..
And i myself will test it in stand alone and probebly make an coaster doing that, but iam curious myself ..
But as i have said earlier... if the encode infact does play nice in windvd it usually play nice for 99,99% in stand alone..
Just not in pottieplayer ..ewww.. hehe..
I have tested that theory back then with 3 different and picke stand alones.... SO...
I find it weird why the dvd9 untouched disc or Transcoded disc (which has been altered too in a way) DO INFACT PLAY NICE in ALL PLAYERS TIME AND TIME AGAIN ... whereas rebuilder made project has give me playback problems in standalone players too and on more then one occasion for whatever reason that may be.. that i find MOST PUZZLING !!!
cheers

So what movie are you trying to encode? I still use DVD_RB on occasion and have no issues.

hi boyca,
the fairly new released movie iam trying to teach an lesson is called → PAIN & GAIN ← :sly:
KNOCK urselfs out..
why .. iam willing to upload an piece of that specific scene that gave troubles..
But i have to do that through pgcedit... so, iam not sure if thats alright by jdobbs :sly: !!
Cuz he told me an long time ago , that the root of the porblems in rebuilder is because of pre-edited dvd discs !!
And iam talking about an well respected dvd reauthor program in the community.
EDIT: MOST important... if u do want to follow my lead .. do SELECT → DUTCH ← subtitles during playback in pottie player mkay...
The problem seems only to be with the dutch track !!!
And i happend to be an DUTCH MAN :o .. just my luck → PAL ← :sly:

Another UP To DATE:
Well as per request i did test the REbuilder Encoded disc in an stand alone player.
And as expected, the subtitles did all appear during playback !!
So the question remains, why is it that ONLY an dvdrebuild encoded disc refuse to play properly in potplayer and dvd9 to → DVD5 transcoded and dvd-9 do play just nice :scared: :sly:!!
cheers

A suggestion: Call the help line for potplayer, or post a bug report on their site. It's obvious the problem can't be resolved here.
