Cce sp3 audio sync error please help

Hi

We are getting an audio sync error on our SP3 encoding.

the details are as follows.

Video 1920 1080 MOV file

Length 2 hours 22 minutes.

Codec in mov Avid DNXHD 10 bit 24fps video

We need to encode for NTSC DVD9 with maximum quality in variable bit rate mode with 2 audio streams.

Dolby 448kbps

DTS 754kbps

source video in progressive.

but while encoding we are getting Audio sync error .Looking forward to your great help

You will of course have to encode the AC3 & DTS half bitrate externally, and be feeding CCE with a regular 16/48 stereo file, yes?
Are you encoding the MPEG-2 as 23.976 PS with the pull correctly set or 29.97 NTSC? I have had problems with CCE's 23.976 output too.

Is your source true 24.00 or 23.98? Is your source correctly recognized? (right click on the filename and check details)
If your source is 23.98 select "DVD" as mpeg mode, otherwise (if source is 24.00) select MPEG-2 and "Other" as TV System and choose 24 as frame rate. In both cases leave 2:3 pulldown enabled and try "Rate conv" disabled.
BTW, which version of SP3 are you using? It seems an old version since it lacks some options. In that case update to the latest version.

Source is 24, i have already posted a picture of my my cce sp3 settings, video details i have already posted at the begining of the thread, Please have a look at the picture of my cce settings and advice me if that settings are ok to gain a maximum quality on my out put ,please let me know the settings given on that picture if any wrong,

I have already see that picture. I'm not asking about your source 'as it is in origin' but as it is detected *inside* CCE (you haven't specified if those specs comes from your NLE/MediaInfo or from CCE but it seems the former rather than the latter). If it is badly detected you can screw the encode process. Check the details *inside* CCE if it detects the clip correctly. Then re-check my previous post and suggested settings (otherwise (if source is 24.00) select MPEG-2 and "Other" as TV System and choose 24 as frame rate. In both cases leave 2:3 pulldown enabled and try "Rate conv" disabled.) <- These are different from your settings. This also explain my other question (which SP3 version are you using? Newer version add fixes, maybe even the audio synch problem if it is due to CCE and not due to wrong settings).
You can also check other things, for example, are the MOV and MPEG-2 length the same (not frame length, but timecode length) at the end? You're feeding the encoder with an HD source... do your CCE version supports the conversion from Rec.709 to Rec.601? If it is not the case, you're producing a wrong encode. The latest CCE version surely supports the HD to SD colormatrix conversion.

I have sorted the sync error problem now, earlier did not check rate conversion, but then after checking the rate conversion audio sync error is sorted out, What i need to know is the settings i shown on the picture is that ok to get the maximum quality on my output or is there any changes on the settings to be made to get a maximum quality on output.Many thanks for your vaulable supports.

You should assume 23.976p and encode with pulldown.
Audio should be slow down manually (0.1%) in eg. Audition (best without any pitch correction).

Some of your settings are wrong/not optimal (assuming your encode is for DVD):
- MPEG2 mode- should be DVD (not MPEG2)
- untick Use stuffing bits (no need for this)
- GOP Size N should be 12 (in case of 23.976+pulldown) not 15
- there is no need for 9 passes at all- 3 is waaay enough
- if you create some custom Picture settings you need to set them for all chapters (in your case all except 1st one will use default settings)
- untick low pass filtering in Picture Settings- SP3 default setting uses to strong low pass filtering.

Most important- read manual!!!!! SP3 is not a "choose source and click start encoder".

Sorry for being a pain, i am stuck with another problem now , please have a look at the source and out put , after encoding some of the screens got some distortions, i am also posting a screen shot of my settings used for this encode.

Is 2:3 or 3:2 pulldown better ? Please advice.

subair37 you have to play around with the settings on you own, it is trial and error. if your source is very good or contains a lot of fast motion i suggest you decrease the value of activity and residual in the Quant character or if it has low motion or still increase it. and for your luma it all depends on the source if it has a lot of bright scenes have a lower value and if it has a dark scene give it a higher value. you can take off the filters in Picture setting it tends to make the film softer and you can preset theses to the marked segments or "scenes" of the film to get the optimal Quant for that particular scene. you can also utilize the effect settings and put it on the scenes if it fade to full black or full white to eliminate wasted bits and squeeze the most out of it. you have to understand what each options does in CCE SP3, i suggest you read their user guide like kolak suggested and get a better understanding of how each option works. Remember it is Trial and Error and take you time on it. VBR multipass you can just set it to 1 or 2. too much passes the size of the out file gets smaller but some scenes will lose some bits that it deserves. or do the One-pass VBR which you get the approximate output size in a shorter time. it all depends on your preference. you can also do a 1st pass vbr and increase or decrease the bitrate on certain segments in the bit allocation option to distribute the bitrate the way you want it i.e. take some bits out of the end credit segment and put more in fast motion segments and do a 2nd pass to amend the changes. There is a lot of information out there on the internet for you to utilize, search this forum, if you can't find it here use google. Any questions i am glad to assist you :)

The artifacts look like some sort of moire due to the resizing. Can you give us an unprocessed source sample of that to look at?

Source and encoded file show different frames.
Is this moire not on the source?

Change resize method to Lanczos3 and make sure progressive scaling is used. You can tick antialiasing if it's for TV viewing.
