View Full Version : Power Consumption when decoding with DGIndexNV

Hi, I'm contemplating getting a GTX770. I'm wondering how's the power consumption of this card (and I guess by extension other cards as well) when I'm using it for DGIndexNV decoding? I'm guessing it should be near idle power consumption as opposed to load, but it will be nice to get a confirmation. I can't imagine doing a 24 hour encoding with the 770 running at load power consumption, that will really bust my power bill :p

I have a GTX 770, and with x264 --preset ultrafast and DGDecNV handling 1080p24 the GPU is using about 25% TDP according to GPU-z

You'll be fine :)

This is how a 1080p decode looks on my GT240:

Pretty much as expected with the video engine at 100% and everything else (GPU, memory) at almost idle.

I find it a bit odd that you're getting such a high load on the GPU since the decoder does not use it. Possibly some silly Windows Aero BS sucking the power from your card. ;)

Thanks for the replies! I think I will go ahead and get the card then :D

I'm seeing 9% GPU load, 99% video engine load, and 25% TDP when just using --preset ultrafast --crf 30 --output nul on 1080p.

If I instead switch to --preset veryfast (to get lookahead) and turn on --opencl, I see ~50% GPU load, 80% video engine load, and 40% TDP.
