View Full Version : How To Verify That Burned BD Disc Will Playback Without Freezing?

It has happened to me that a seemingly successful BD movie backup will freeze on playback in spite of BDR and ImgBurn log files saying the burn was successful. Is there a way to scan or test a Anydvd HD/BDR/ImgBurn produced movie backup disc to see if might freeze up on playback without actually playing it?
Thank you!

Does your ImgBurn process include the Verify option?
If ImgBurn does a good verify-after-burn then you have to work backwards from that, which I think means to play the entire movie from start-to-finish on your PC (from the BDMV folder on your hard disc) using a software player.

tn jim, you don't mention what media you're using or what speed you're burning at? I always follow these rules for burning discs:
1. Use quality media.
2. Make an ISO file from the folders using IMGBurn and burn the ISO file instead of using the folders to burn directly to disc.
3. Use the following MAX burn speeds:
DVD: 8x
BD: 4x
4. Always have the verify button checked in IMGBurn to verify that the burn was good.
Using the above techniques I've never had an issue with playback unless the disc was scratched which doesn't really happen with BD-r's.

I burn from folders, but also use the same settings. If it passes the verify, I never have issues.

+1 here...
ImgBurn's verification function never failed for me as well. Be it BDs or DVDs. If ImgBurn complains, the optical media moves to the trash bin. :D
Edit: Usually it does not make a difference wether you burn an ISO or directly from folders. Good quality medias matching your burner and your playback devices are a must !

When I do a backup of a movie that I care about (well, all my backups are about movies I care about) or where I changed something (navigation, subtitles etc) I always test a burned rewritable medium.
IMGburn's VERIFY function is limited in that it may provide information whether the medium was successfully burned, not that the movie would work.
