Hi!
Using CinemaCraftEncoder:
I recently reencoded Swordfish (95min.) with TWO multipasses, under W98SE. It took 11hours.
Today i'm trying to reencode ProofOfLife (2h) with THREE multipasses under W2000, and it's gonna take.... 7 hours!!!!
On the same computer!!
How is this possible???

pehaps the bitrate is substantially less/more.

Well, I can't comment specifically on Cinemacraft, cos I currently only have a PII, but I have remakred on this forum before that Win2k is WAY faster than Win95/98/Millenium, for MPEG encoding in general - try Xing's Audio Catalyst, for example, and you will see that Win2k takes only two-thirds the time to encode a ".wav" file, than Win98 does. I suspect this is attributable, quite simply, to more efficient CPU and memory management - Win2k (and NT) is far more professionally coded than the "toy" operating systems that preceded it.
In short, your Cinemacraft findings are no surprise to me, and I do not think they are a mistake/anomally.
Incidentally, I personally run Win98 (only for a few minor appz whihc refuse to run under Win2k) /Win2k DUAL-boot, so I am familiar with this issue!!

Hi,
you can gain another 1-3fps by using NT4SP6. My experience.
