Xvid & Autodivx

Hi i know that xvid codec is alway under development but do u think u could make only one panel setting for the codec (not a lot of tabs)
like the divx4 setting panel ?

because o lot o people use mpeg2avi (hehe is still alive) + divxauto
(a Command line prog to tweak the codec ) unhappyly divx auto can't change tab or trackbar :-(

if someone could change the xvid setting panel in order that divxauto could work , i think a lot of rippack will use xvid codec.

Hi.

XviD actually has very verbose registry keys - just open up regedit and look at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GNU\XviD - any option you can set in the GUI, you can set via the registry. Keep in mind that not as much checking takes place on the registry values, so invalid entries may crash the codec :)

It would be much much better if divxauto edited the registry keys instead of relying on the codec dialog box - after all, the dialog box is guaranteed to change in the future.

hi i think too that the dialog box is guaranteed to change in the future but divxauto is very simple to configure the only think is all the componement (editbox,button,combox..etc) must be in the same windows not on other tab.

i don't want to use registry because : first the xvid key are very strange (only one big binary string) a little error then i think the codec will crash.

then i think modification in registry is not same if u use Win98/WinXP/Win2k....

I hope once u release the final xvid codec u will mix all the tab in one (then if u could use an editbox for the bitrate number :-))

PS: in divx4 there is a lot of registry keys very easy to understand what they do ,ex: Bitrate (in hexa value),VBR Mode (0 = CBR,1...2..3=2pass-2ndpass)

The most recent build of XviD has all the registry keys separated, it's no longer one big binary key. The only keys used are REG_DWORD and REG_SZ, so it will work the same on any version of windows.

The only problem with having one dialog, is that XviD will eventually support so many options that it will be too big to fit on the screen. Seriously :)

hi have update the xvid then i have found the separate key :-)
(in my old build the key was here : curen_user\Xvid MPEG4 codec\VFW)

By default, and even on highly secured NT/2K/XP workstations, you always have read/write access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER - there should be no problem.

I'd welcome any ideas for arranging the codec dialog box - 4 revisions now, and it still looks disorganised to me :(

I think that we will eventually need a "simple" version of the codec for newbies. But until then, I'm enjoying the fast development...

This will be done.. not until featuritis calms down however. If we end up making our own encoding program (it's looking pretty likely), there'll be a spectacularly simple mode.. pretty much "where is the audio file?" and "how big do you want the final avi?"

plus, capture mode i.e.: Film/Video, start time, duration, file size (-> auto resolution by bitrate and interlaced/progressive)

[edit:] 2nd thought, film/video is either automatically detected or deduced from expected bitrate... pretty much a programmable vcr, with best quality always!!! :)
