Ok, there's this site: www.copymydvd.com, wherein one may order an all-in-one DVD ripper for 39.95 +s/h.
Besides it being doubtful that one could get that great a rip with a program that claims to be really easy to use, it seems kind of strange that they would market a _commercial_ package for the sole purpose of "backups". Now, the people that make backups are probably really into it (like us), or unscrupulous pirates. So the whole idea of this software package seems, at least to me, quite hypocritical.
I suggest:
a) Ratting them out to the MPAA, or similar fascists,
and/or
b) Widely pirating (or "ripping/backing up") their software

speaking of, does anyone have a copy? What's it like?

These kinds of things started appearing a couple months ago, but now I'm seeing popups like this on mainstream sites. From the past experience of people on this forum, these offers are never their own software (note how they say "software package", not single program). It's basically a couple of proggies you can all find at doom9's, and a badly written guide. And it's to VCD, so you can imagine the quality.

Probably wouldn't do much good for the market they're targeting, but we could (collectively) pan them at resellerratings.com.

Don't throw stones when in glasshouses.

Don't cut your nose to spite your face. Why would I want to pirate inferior tools than what I'm using now?

just leave them be, no one that comes here is likely to fall for their "trick" its a bit of a shame that some others may be conned but thats all the more reason to tell everyone to come here!! :)

There are about a dozen programs/program collections like this on the German market. I read a comparison test in a computer magazine recently; basically all of these programs had major flaws and didn't produce good quality. The overall comment was "don't buy it, not even total newbies will need this - why not get all you need free from the web?"

Hi!

these german programm bundles are known as DVDvideo. The Davideo DIVX Bundle:

Flask MEPG Engine.
Avichop
Virtual dub

under a nice layout. They write you can copy, cut and edit your divx 4 Videos with it. Pah! I know that avichop only works with DIVX 3 so i have tested that commercial programm and it was not able to cut DIVX 4. Waste of money these things.

But what should be helpful for VCD Newbies is Moviejack it copies your dvd into mpg VCD Files without many settings you can get your movie on VCD.
