Hi all, its a while since I've had to squash a DVD. I was a Pro user of DVD Rebuilder and I just wondered if BD Rebuilder will handle DVDs or if I should go back to DVD Rebuilder? I assume BD will only copy them back to BRs?

BD-RB can take many formats, including Blu-ray, ts, mkv, mp4, avi etc... and convert them to DVD. Just use the alternate output option. ;)

So DVD Rebuilder isn't needed now? Will BD build a DVD, complete with menus to a BR?

While BD-RB does accept DVD input, I would still use the pro version of DVD-RB for DVD to DVD backup, especially since you want to retain menus.

DVD format can't be written to a Blu-ray. Movie only can be made into a Blu-ray disc, but DVD menus will not be converted to Blu-ray menus.

You can also choose to output the DVD to Blu-ray format as either a movie-only or Quick-Play backup. In the next release of BD-RB the Quick-Play output will include a fully functioning menu.

Do you have planned for a future release of BD-RB to be able to take multiple BD rips (in my case TV Episodes), and place them on a BD-R with a fully functioning menu?

This would be a great way to back-up a valuable box set. Hopefully you will see a flood of new donations for this!

:) Hmm... I've never seen a "flood of donations" in my life. I'm lucky if one out of every thousand users sends $5. I'm way in the hole if I just count the money I spend on discs that have to be tested -- let alone the time I spend actually developing.

Oh well, it is what it is. ;)

As I learned from Mike Nesmith in "Elephant Parts": "People are just no damn good!" It's an ugly problem and is no doubt the reason deank has mostly disappeared from Doom9. I certainly wouldn't have the temperment to get so many server hits and so few donations.

IsoPuzzle from Marsoupilamis had a cool idea: "You have recovered X discs using this program. Please donate..." May not have worked for him since he hasn't updated that program since 2008, but hey sometimes shame can be a powerful motivator...

I agree with you but it is still sad that shame has to be used in such a way.
Sorry for the O.T.

I am not among those who don't want to donate. While it is true I don't make donation frequently but whenever I do, I usually donate around $60. Even though I haven't used program for quite a while, but still want to support it whenever possible.

That's really unfortunate. I'm not a wealthy guy, but I will occasionally send money the developers way. It's the least I can do if use it. All you reading this should do the same. Think of all the money you spend on coffee every morning. Please help support future development of this outstanding software. That's not too much to ask if you're using it.

jdobbs, please accept another donation for your brilliant software. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thanks, it is much appreciated... but I really didn't mean to turn this into a sob story and I certainly don't want to try and put another "touch" on people who have already contributed. I'm the one who made the decision to develop software that is based upon voluntary donations, and as I said, it is what it is.

I hope you enjoy the new import features with active menus. I'm pretty excited about it. I've been pulling in series discs left and right in testing... :)

Understood but IMO while OT it's good to talk about this once in a while. I sent $20 a couple years ago after excitedly doing a couple of important BDs successfully. Then I set BD-RB aside for a while and recently have used it again so I'm thinking I need to contribute again.

Again, just my opinion but I think people should think in terms of the value of their discs and the costs to backup. Costs a buck or less for the disc itself and then maybe 10% to jdobbs. Geez, $20 bucks for every 10 movies you back up ain't a lot.

Anyone who has a Home Theater and/or pricey PCs to run-and-play BD discs ought to be well-equipped to support their favorite software tools.

:)
