View Full Version : Can I force MPC to not upscale or downscale at all?

I'd like to have the option to have a 1080p video not be resized at all for my 1080p screen. I noticed there is always some sort of resizing one way or another on full screen. This triggers the resizing algorithms (even if they are madVR's) that diminish quality.

Most videos use chroma subsampling (meaning the color information is stored at a lower resolution than brightness information), so even with a 1080p video on a 1080p screen you will need to upscale the chroma information.

I doesn't matter. I already find it hard to find differences on different algorithms for chroma in madVR. I'd still find it very useful for image scaling.

I wonder if this does it: View->Video Frame->Normal size. Though I'm not sure if it's manipulated on full screen, at least by madVR.

If your screen is 1080p, and your video is 1080p, and you're in fullscreen, there is not going to be any scaling (except for Chroma, as explained in the other posts)
How would you "notice" that there is scaling?

That's wrong. Test it. Put a very bad algorithm on madVR and see it diminishing quality on fullscreen.

Then either your video or your screen is not 1080p.
madVR does *not* scale when it does not have to.

Note that for example aspect ratio correction is also a kind of scaling, and if thats required, it will also have to scale.
