Hellou,

Hello,

After encoding with HM11, I got this information about PSNR:

And after x264 encoding, I got this about PSNR:

So, HM gave me PSNR for Y U and V components for all, I,P,B slices and x264 gave me PSNR for Y U V, average PSNR and global.

Now, how can I make comparison in terms of PSNR?

Calculate average PSNR and compare with average PSNR.

The standard formula for a global PSNR value is ...

(6 * YPSNR + UPSNR + VPSNR) / 8

Y is weighted more heavily because your eye has higher sensitivity to details in black and white (luma) than in color (chroma).

I don't know where you get this "standard" from. Google literally shows this post as the first result. Also where the heck does 6 or 8 come form? Y has 4x the number of pixels as U or V. Seems pretty arbitrary.

6 Y-PSNR + U-PSNR + V-PSNR

The formula is simply saying that your eye is 3 times more sensitive to video noise (error) in luma than it is in chroma.
