With my first post I thought it would be safest to post here.:)
I have been lurking here for about a month. I have read all the guides. I have learned a ton from this great site.
What I have not located is any info on enabling chapters after ripping to the HD. What I have surmized is that any of the players I have used (PowerDVD being my favorite so far) will skip forward to the next VOB file in my movie rather than the next chapter.
My assumptions are:
1. PowerDVD when reading from the HD is using a FILE mode and the forward/skip button will move to the next VOB.
2. If PowerDVD is reading directly from a DVD, it is using a MOVIE mode that knows where the chapters are located.
I have used both SmartRipper and DVDDecoder with the same results. I have the same problem whether I remove the copyright splash screen or not. I always have the IFO file and have tried PowerDVD with and without the IFO present.
The only solution I have come up with was to rip to HD into separate chapters so that I could skip to certain chapters if I had to stop the movie or find a particular location.
I have a Sony VAIO 1.7 GHz with a newly added Pioneer A03 in the place of the original DVD drive (I foamcore taped the Sony bezel piece to the drive drawer and removed the door cover so my computer looks original still). I have tested ripping to the HD for days, but am just tonight going to start burning DVDs to see what you guys have taught me. ;)
Any information would be greatly appreciated. And if I find out it IS in one of the guides, I will kill myself.
