Not sure which area to post this - kindly move if necessary.

A good friend of mine died last week and his sister sent me a DVD produced by her for his 60th birthday. I was going to extract some stills from it to make a silent photo montage.

I have tried DVD Shrink, Decrypter, ISOBuster et all to no avail. The structure is all there, bup, ifo and vob files and plays ok in my Pioneer player.

I have tried several PC's and whilst I can access and copy the files - drag and drop no PV player will open it - WMP, VLC etc. Womble rejects it as does Vegas etc etc....

MediaInfo reports nothing for the vob files and inaccurate info for the IFO files regarding time.

I would prefer not to capture it via my mpeg analog device.

Any clues where to start - this one has really stumped me.

Below is the MediaInfo of one of IFO files

What happens if you feed the raw .vob files to a player or something like DGDecode?

What happens if you slice off the front of a .vob and feed the remainder to something in error recovery mode?

Whilst I could drag and drop the audio_ts and video_ts folder complete with files to the desktop or anywhere else, I could not load either as DVD or the individual vob files into any program. I will try a MAC next week but I think I am going to playback and capture with my dvico card. Will try DG. BTW how do I cut a bit off at the head?

Trying to load a vob file into DG I get a "No video header sequence found" error message. Yet it plays OK in the Yamaha.

Looks like a protected DVD. Strange for a home-made DVD, but not impossible.
Have you tried to rip it to hard disc with a good DVD decrypter (instead of just copying the files)?

Well it's been a highly emotional time for me and I feel a bit of a goose. I tried every decrypting program including DVDFab etc, etc I realise I didn't try DVDDecrypter after all and voila it's done. The disc wasn't protected but maybe it had macrovision? Both my late friend and his sister worked for a leading TV station in BA and she had a full crew of professionals to film his 60th surprise birthday party complete with string quartet and a couple of opera singers. Thanks very much and sorry for the wild goose chase.. BTW where is the log file located for DVDDecrypter?

EDIT: Found it.

I don't remember where the log file is saved, but you can save it yourself from the menu of the log window. When you do that, it should show you a File Save dialog, with the default directory pre-selected, and you should see the previous log file.
