Anyone got an IFOEdit rip to work on a PS2?

They work on my standalone but not on the PS2.

Is there a special method or is it the writing software that is causing the problem. I currently use Nero.

If anyone has got it to work can you please post what writing software you used.

It depends of media you're using and the version of your PS2.

PS2 can read -R media (not sure).

old PS2 can't read -RW nor +RW media (tested).

newest PS2 version can read +RW media (tested).

newest PS2 version can read -RW media (not sure).

ps2 can read -r because i burn my ps2 games to dvd-r's so there ya go ;) and they work fine

Then your PS2 must read DVD-Video too.

Did you tried with a original DVD movie?

It's confusing:
Your standalone reads DVD made with ifoedit.
Your PS2 can't read the same disk.

What UDF version you're using: 1.02 or 1.5
I read somewhere that PS2 needs UDF 1.5 version (Don't believe me, but I read that)
Check what kind of version did you use for writing the PS2 games to DVD-R

pop your ps2 game into your dvd burner, open up prassi primodvd 2.0

make a gi image...to your hd

burn back the gi image to a blank dvdr

and thus you have a perfect dvd copy of a ps2 game

Not too sure which version of UDF I'm using. I've used Nero 5564 so it's whatever version of UDF this is using.

The only place where I've seen an option to select a UDF format is in VOB InstantDVD.

Anyone used this or GearDVD to make a PS2 compatible DVD using IFOEdit?

The strange thing is when the DVD is re-authored using SpruceUp or something similar, the DVD-R works fine. So it's not an issue of the PS2 reading the disc, it's purely down to the structure of the re-burnt DVD or the writing software. At the moment I don't know which.

Yes it is possible to copy DVD Movies to DVD-r and play them in PS2. Ps2 play everything. My first DVD Copies i forgot to get VTS sectors and they havn`t accepted in any standalone DVD Player the PS2 played them.
Copying DVD PS2 Games? I do not think that that belongs in this forum. It is very simple but i am tired about all this Modchip shit and so i buy my games.

GearDVD seems to be the way to go as it is strict in verifying the VIDEO_TS folder you want to burn.

I keep getting this error which is probably why it doesn't work on the PS2.

Load error on file VTS_01_0.IFO
File cannot be loaded at the required address (646) because the address is already occupied.
First available address is 659.

I've stripped streams, ReMPEG'd and then ReMuxed to a new directory creating a new VIDEO_TS.IFO file so that it plays just the movie straight off.

Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Excellent! GearDVD now working perfect and the DVD-R works perfect on the PS2.

Found the answer in another thread. You need to add a VIDEO_TS.VOB file. At first I tried the old trick of adding a 0 byte text file and renaming it but this doesn't work. So all you do is add a small VIDEO_TS.VOB file which apparently can be from any DVD. Luckily the one I was doing was only 179Kb so this was ideal.

Hey I am having the same problem with my ps2. I made a copy of Swordfish and it works on my computer with a program that only plays whole discs and not just files, so I know I am pretty close. I just looked at the disc I made and it didnt have a video_ts.vob file, but I dont have one to put on. Will a blank file work?

A blank file won't work. Any valid VIDEO_TS.VOB will work. The smaller the better.

Don't forget you will have to do a 'Get VTS Sectors' before burning.

Ok I found a video_ts.vob file on fast and the furious so I tried using that and I still had a problem. I copied the video_ts.vob file to my ripped VIDEO_TS folder that I had already used ifoedit and get VTS sectors on. I used get VTS sectors again after I added the video_ts.vob file to the folder. It still wouldnt work in my PS2. Do I need to re-rip the dvd and only do the get VTS sectors at the end? Will doing get VTS sectors twice cause a problem? Are there any other things I could be doing wrong? (I am using the guide in Doom9 to just get the main movie). The disc will play on my computer, so I have to be close. Any suggestions?

To play PS2 backups you need modchip and DVD-Region-X (US)or Action Replay 2 (Euro), not required for PSX backups. Some games will also require a patch applied (EA games for example)

original ps (CD)
backup ps (CDr)
original ps2 (CD)
backup ps2 (CDr)
original movie (DVD)
backup movie (DVD-R)
original ps2 (DVD)
backup ps2 (DVD-r)

and you dont need any action replay or swap tricks or patches for EA games

sOnyguy, what new chips are these because places like the Mod Chip Store say even with the new chips these other extras are required for PS2 games, but not PSX. Is this because the game is moded with Ifoedit. Please explain how. I have copied DVD films on DVD-R and played on PS2 SCPH30003R without modchip, but this is all I have tried so far

you are right about the dvd's though .. they will play without a mod chip - as will ps original games.

Thanks for the link good informative site, but the chip is 63.95 GBP /$89. You then have to solder 23 wires which will invalidate warranty.
With the Action Replay / DVD-Region-x and chip (Bundle kit 44.00 GBP / $62.50) you only have to solder 1 wire. I surpose the only bad thing is you still have to rip the PS2 games (I think :confused:). By the way to play original psx games without chip, do you just backup as normal with prog... like CDRWIN.

DVD-rw with a dvd movie

I using ifoedit and nero with udf 1.02 selected
but for some reason not every film will work??

and as for VIDEO_TS.....why not tick the box in ifoedit
that says recreate new VIDEO_TS.........works for me

I have a Pioneer 626D DVD player and a H&B DVD player. If I record IfoEdited movies with Nero, VOB instant 6 or Prassi Primo DVD, they will ALL work on the PIONEER, but only the one written with Prassi Primo DVD will work on both players.

Just wanted to share my experience with DVD-R's and the PS2 (version 4):

I use Apple brand from Fry's at $5.38 each
DVD Burner: [Pioneer A04 not updated the firmware yet]
DVD burning software: [veritas]

I've used both ifoedit and maestro. Apples always work for both games and movies. My PS2 will not accept any cheap media though. Even games will barely run on non-branded stuff. No news there, but here's what's interesting: I've also been using Verbatims purchased at Best Buy for 4.70 a pop and I've gotten mixed results. They always work for games, but rarely for movies. After a couple of coasters (they would play on other stand alones, but not the PS2), I went back to apples using the same authoring techniques and I got positive results on the 'ol PS2. It just comes down to the cheap laser quality of older version ps2's.

Can some one share the process and post a mini-guide with the software your using with positive results?

I use DVD+R on my PS2 but got mix results, for example some movies will play slow and some fast(2X) and no audio, no problem for movies under 4.3GB after removing all the extras; my problem is when I get long movies over 4.3 Gb and have to use CCE to get the movie to a more "friendly size".

Before you throw out a blanket statement like that consider there are many different versions of ps2 and such. As mine wont play riteks, or even memorex and imation, I've only had luck with apple, tdk, and verbatim so far.

I have a PS2 with a Magic 3 mod chip.

I use Prassi Primo DVD to create image from master disc and using the same software burn it into a DVD-R ( Pioneer A04 ). It works on my PS2. Copied PS1 games on CDR's also works with same procedure.

However, for some reason copied PS2 games on a DVD-RW and copied DVD movies on a DVD-R won't work on PS2 with Magic 3 chip.

I've seen a couple of posts with PS2 not playing DVD+R/RW. I also had mixed results untill I noticed that large backups - the ones that take the whole DVD play, while small one's not always (Any one of them played on my stand-alone). I have traced it back to the DVD session being automatically closed for large backups. Now I am forsing the DVD to close and have not had a problem since.

The question is does anyone know of a way to close already written session? I have tried Roxio, nero and bee's recorder, but they all say no-can-do.:angry:
Well, roxio does not seem to have an option to force the closed session at all. Most of the options are grayed out once I put a DVD+R/RW in the drive.
