Hard disk problem

I found a 1.5 T external hardrive in my garage, it was loaded with all stuff, I do not need, formatted it, now can't install anything on the disk, shows up in device manage and says the device is working, yet when I try to install NEW Folder" nothing.T.I.A.

If memory serves me right, and I have only done this with IDE drives:

Go to, control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools. Click on "computer management", another box will open. Expand the "storage" button and click on "disk management", you should now see a list of all your drives. The drive will show up without a drive letter. Right-click on the drive and select "change drive letter and paths". Assign a letter and you will have to reboot for it to come into effect.

P.S. You may have right-click and select "mark partition as active" as well, not too sure, have not done this for a while!
