Not done this for a while, so was wondering what tools are people using to encode blu-rays and DVDs to xvid?

Got the youngest Daughter a little media streamer, with hard drive, for her room so when so has sleep-overs or friends around, they can pick and choose what films they want to watch without throwing the discs around like frisbees!

Regards...

I use MeGUI mostly.
For dvd to xvid maybe the simplest tool but quite good is AutoGK.

I believe both multiAVCHD and BD Rebuilder have that capability...

Staxrip, Hybrid, Handbrake...
Handbrake ditched XviD support several years ago...

Sure, but the 0.9.3 is still available and does its job.

Have you tried Avgo Media Recorder? If it doesn't work properly, try Backup Blu-ray and launch the Bluray ripper.

My suggestion:
Dump BD / DVD to MKV with MakeMKV. Then shrink to MPEG4 with Handbrake. This process should be pretty straight forward.
Although a "Transcoder GUI" like WinFF or Freemake Videocoder might make it simpler to shrink the stuff to MPEG4 by using the right preset.
DivX/XVid/MPEG4 with MP3 Audio inside an AVI container should be the most compatible format here...

Thanks for the replies chaps!

I went for RipBot in the end, to SD-MP4. She has a small 28 flat screen, and they do look nice :)
