Before i start encoding divx with AC-3 sound I have a question. In order to hear divx with ac-3 do you have to have a 5.1 sound card or any kind of sound card will work. I mean I know if i want to hear ac-3 i need a 5.1 card but will ac-3 work with a regular card too just too hear the movie and what player do I need.

I did this for a long time until I finally got my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. But sound worked fine from AC3 and sounded as good as pro-logic with my older Creative Labs AWE 64 Value.

Sure, you will get sound with any soundcard. You just need to have an ac3 decoder filter. These come with software DVD players (like WinDVD, PowerDVD) or look for the audiofilters on doom9's download page.
If you want Dolby Digital Sound you need a Soundcard with 5.1 or S/P-DIF output (and the appropriate amp/speakers).
