Hi Everyone,
I am very new to doing this and want to do it right, I see all the different options of what can be done, my Family has Ipad Mini's and iPhone 5's, I see what to set it for iPads but what would you guys use for iPhone 5's? there is a iPhone 4s setting but no 5, sorry in advance if this is a silly question lol but as I said I am very new to doing any kind of mobile encodes and would really like to try this out.
Thanks

I never thought about using BD-Rebuilder to encode for my mobile devices. For that, I use DVDCatalyst, and pick the target device profile.
Of course I use BD-Rebuilder for Alt Movie Only output to MKV files for my PC and streaming to my TV's and Bluray players.... and also use those MKV's as sources for DVDCatalyst.
For the iPhone 5, DVDCat picks 1136x640 as the output size for all profiles. iPhone 4s, 960x640. iPad 2 and iPad Mini 1024x768, iPad 2 (HD) and iPad Mini (HD) 1280x720.
I'd be curious how others have made out using BD-RB to make files for mobile devices.

Thank you very much, I have never heard of that program, I wish all those options were also in BD-RB, I would prefer to use this, do you know what DVD Cat uses to encode? does it use x264 like BD-RB? I really like the iP{hone 5 options and all the options for the iPad mini, like the HQ HD setting, would love to see these in BD-RB.
Thanks again for the info and suggestion.

Thanks again for the info and suggestion.Look in the ALTERNATE.TXT file. You can create as many or as few configuration as you'd like. The ones in the list are just a set of baseline examples to show you how it is done.

Thank you so much for that jdobbs, I really need to start looking at these text files you include lol, I am sorry for missing that, but in the past I never had to look at them, everything did what I needed right out of the box, but how do I go about finding all the info I need for iPad mini's and iPhone 5's such as SD settings, HD settings, HQ HD settings, etc.?
Thanks again for the info.

Thanks again for the info.Personally I would use the iPad 1280x720 format that is provided already. That's a standard HD format and it will playback very well on the iPad, iPhone 5, and iPad mini. I wouldn't recommend using any of those oddball sizes trying to match the actual device resolution. That just means you'll have to reencode again for the next device.

Great idea and I agree, to much hassle especially if both devices can handle the 720p correctly, thanks again jdobbs for the help, these 2 devices are the only ones used by my whole Family so I will just go with that.

1 more question, with the default settings my movie is coming out at 4.4 GB's for a 126 minute film, does this seem a little large lol? I thought that digital copies and such for mobile devices were smaller in size, but I could be wrong, so is there something I can do hear to keep the great quality but bring the size down a bit?
Thanks

ThanksThe output size is variable depending upon your settings in the "Alternate Movie-Only Output" dialog. What setting are you using? I would first suggest you choose CRF with a value of about 23 -- which would give you a good quality level. Either that, of if you already have an output size in mind, set the encode for two pass and choose the output size you desire.

Thanks, it was default set to 20 so I changed to 23 and will try again, I don't usually change your default settings.
